Can I fix a leaking pipe myself using epoxy putty or tape?

Epoxy putty or pipe repair tape can slow or stop a small active leak for a short time, but these are temporary patches and the pipe still needs a proper repair. Most quick fixes fail early on pressurized lines or corroded sections because movement and water pressure reopen the leak.

If the leak is visible and minor, a short-term patch can limit damage until a plumber cuts out and replaces the bad section or properly re-seals the joint. For hidden leaks, we use non-invasive equipment to locate the source and then provide a clear, flat-rate quote before work. Our team handles these repairs routinely for homeowners around the Vail area.

Use a quick patch only as a stopgap, not a fix:

 • Okay for a slow drip you can fully dry and wrap/pack without power nearby.
 • Call a pro if the pipe is spraying, the leak is in a wall/ceiling or slab, or you smell sewage.
 • Replace or repipe if you see pitting, green crust, or multiple past patches.

Shut off the main water valve if a leak worsens or you hear water behind a wall.
Updated: 2026-06-06
Need help in Vail, AZ? Call (520) 200-2614 or book online.
